Marco’s Pizza continues to be one of the fastest growing pizza franchises in the country
Marco’s Pizza has been one of the fastest growing pizza franchises in the United States over the past decade, and that trend continued in 2019.
Franchisees opened 100 locations in 2019, including 16 Marco’s Pizzas in Puerto Rico, 15 in Florida, 11 in North Carolina, 10 in Texas, 7 in Tennessee, and dozens more throughout the rest of the country.
Dozens more are already lined up for 2020, particularly throughout the Southeast, Texas, and California. One of those new openings will mark an amazing milestone for our brand — the 1,000th location.
A decade of success
Marco’s Pizza started four decades ago. Founder Pat Giammarco opened the first location in Toledo, Ohio, in 1978, and over the next 25 years he and franchisees grew it into a beloved regional brand with 126 locations. In 2004, he became a franchisee himself when he sold the brand to a group of investors led by Jack Butorac, who saw an opportunity to build Marco’s Pizza into a national brand.
Butorac has been CEO since 2004. The first few years involved layering in additional resources and corporate support to ensure the brand could support franchisees through a period of rapid growth. Since 2010, the brand has been on an epic winning streak, expanding from just over 200 units in 2010 to nearly 1,000 units today.
Growing recognition
As the brand has grown, Marco’s Pizza has attracted accolades.
- We were named Pizza Chain Brand of the Year following a 2019 Harris Poll/EquiTrend® Study that also named Marco’s the Most Loved and Most Trusted Pizza Chain Brand by consumers. Customers love Marco’s because of our commitment to quality ingredients, outstanding pizza, and excellent service.
- Marco’s was one of three chains that earned a spot in Newsweek magazine’s 2019 America’s Best Customer Service awards.
- In 2019, Forbes magazine ranked Marco’s one of the top five franchise opportunities in the mid-range investment category. Franchisees choose Marco’s because of outstanding training and support, buying power to drive down supply costs, and our dedication to boosting sales and profitability.
Prime territories still available
With nearly 1,000 locations open, Marco’s Pizza has become a brand people know and trust. But we still have plenty of room to grow. CHD Expert estimates Americans spend $46 billion a year on “away-from-home” pizza, and we have prime territories available throughout the United States, including in most metropolitan areas.
